Mold remediation is one of the few home services where the state of New York actually requires a license, and for good reason. Done wrong, mold work can spread spores through a building, disturb hazardous materials, and leave the underlying moisture problem untouched, so it all comes back a few months later.
New York’s mold law was written to protect you from exactly that. It sets minimum work standards, requires proper containment and documentation, and, importantly, keeps the people who inspect for mold separate from the people who get paid to remove it, so no one has an incentive to oversell the work.
